He is a member of the Gamma Theta Upsilon fraternity, Phi Theta Kappa fraternity, the National Association of Black Journalists, an award-winning journalist through the Ohio School Boards Association Media Honor Roll, and won first place as the state of Ohio's "Best Weathercast" via the Cleveland Press Club. Jason is a current member of both the American Meteorology Society and National Weather Association. In January 2018, he joined KVUE in Austin, Texas where he worked as a meteorologist, traffic reporter, and morning anchor, and was also nominated for an Emmy Award. ![]() Jason began his on-air career as a weekend meteorologist in Lima, Ohio within 6 months he was named Chief Meteorologist. He is not only a proud graduate of Pearl River Community College with an Associate degree in Liberal Arts, but he also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology, an advanced degree in Operational Meteorology from Mississippi State University, is a certified Human Resources Professional, a Mississippi state marching band champion, and an avid lover of all things food, music, and wine. Recent times have unfortunately provided no shortage of natural disasters. Some of the most notable events Fisher reported from include the Moore, Oklahoma tornado in 20 tornado Super Outbreak Hurricanes Sandy, Irene, and Isaac and the massive blizzards that essentially shut down New York City in December of 2010 and Boston in February of 2013. He produced and delivered national forecasts and contributed to numerous live reports on extreme weather for The Weather Channel, NBC Nightly News, TODAY and MSNBC. Glued to the red warnings crawling across the screen and watching the radar, his career in weather was born.įisher joined WBZ-TV News from The Weather Channel in Atlanta where he spent three years as a Meteorologist. Eric vividly remembers Memorial Day of 1995 as a day that helped solidify his path as a meteorologist, when an infamous tornado ripped through Great Barrington in the Berkshires. Mike got his start as an intern with WXYZ- TV in Detroit, Michigan, where he worked alongside Chief Meteorologist Dave Rexroth. Prior to that, Mike worked as the chief meteorologist at WBKB-TV in Alpena, Michigan where he won a weather caster of the year award. There was no loss of life during the outbreak in Mike’s viewing area, and he believes it was due to the gutsy call for the weather team to cut into an NFL game.ĭespite the 10 pounds of hate mail they received for cutting into the game, Mike says he knows they made the right decision. He worked alongside his chief and morning meteorologists for 4 hours straight getting the latest warnings and tornado reports to the public. Previously, Mike worked as a meteorologist for our sister station, ABC 2 in Baltimore and the CBS affiliate in Champaign, Illinois, WCIA-TV.ĭuring his time in Central Illinois, Mike was on the air when several tornadoes cut through the state during the November 17th, 2013 Tornado Outbreak. Meteorologist Mike Taylor joined 7 Action News and the 7 First Alert Weather Team in December 2018. Channel 7 is a homecoming for Mike Taylor.
